Rice krispy treats

Ingredients

  • I stick butter
  • 1 1/2 bags of marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispy cereal

Directions

In a medium to large sized pot, melt the stick of butter at a medium heat or higher depending on your stove. Add the marshmallows to the butter and mix until completely melted. Slowly add the cereal a cup at a time and mix. Mix the whole gooey-sticky batch together well and remove from heat. Meanwhile, cover a 9″ by 12″ pan with parchment paper. Add the gooey-sticky batch to the pan and firmly press down. This step will take awhile because you have to cover the whole pan with the Rice Krispy mixture and, the mixture is very stiff and sticky. After covering he whole pan with the mixture, let pan sit for maybe a half a hour to a hour. Hope you enjoy!

Optional idea:

Add a couple drops of your favorite food coloring to the melted marshmallow to get colorful treats!

Lesson 55

There are five major forms in Literature; Novel, Short Story, Novella, Drama and Poem. This week (Lessons 51-55) I have learned about the first three forms -Novel, Short Story and Novella. The assignment for this week is to write a essay about those first three forms.

A novel is a long prose narrative that describes fictional characters and events that is usually in a form of a sequential story. It is also the longest and most well known type of literature -this is pretty easy to understand. When you go to the library, you are most likely going to get a novel because there is hundreds of novels there. I personally prefer novels because they are much longer and, have more story line to them. Examples of novels are, The Count of Monte Cristo, Moby Dick, Heidi, etc.

Short Stories are written in prose like novels but, are much shorter -although there is no set word length that defines a short story. A short story does make use of a plot, resonance and other dynamic components to a far greater degree that is typical of an anecdote yet, to a far lesser degree than a novel. So, it is kind of in the middle of the five major forms of literature. Examples of short stories are, The Tell-Tale Heart, To Build a Fire, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, etc. I think short stories are good for reading together with friends and family members, they have that kind of fun feel that makes you want to read it with someone.

A novella generally features fewer conflicts than a novel but, is more complicated than a short story. Confusing right? Well, a novella in generally longer than a short story but has a more simplified plot line than a novel. Examples of a novel are, A Christmas Carol, Call of the Wild, Animal Farm, etc. I think that novels are a bit confusing but, are nice to read.

There is many forms of literature and it can be confusing to know which one is which but, it can be important to know what the difference between the forms are.

Lesson 55 report

Thomas Aquinas was a Christian philosopher who sought out to apply Aristotelian logic to theology .
Thomas Aquinas was born in Italy in 1225 to a Count and Countess. He began his education when he was only five years old at a university in Naples. There he was influenced by the writings of Aristotle and by the new order of monks, the Dominicans. And so, at the age of nineteen, he joined the Dominican order. His parents were not pleased at all with this act because their other sons were great warriors, not monks. They were so mad that they even kidnapped Thomas from school for two years! Eventually, Thomas’s mother realized that Thomas would become a monk again no matter how hard they convinced him not to so, she helped him escape without the public (And her family) knowing. After he “escaped,” he rejoined the monks just like his mother thought he would.
Awhile after Thomas rejoined, he decided to write about Christion theology in a systematic way using Aristotelian logic and thinking. His most famous work of these writings is “Summa Theologica” which, he never got around to finish it. Another thing that Aquinas is known for is how he greatly influenced the church by using Aristotle’s logic to study scripture. He had also taught a new connection between science and theology, for example, he had argued that, based solely on the evidence in nature, man can logically prove that there is a Father.
Thomas Aquinas was one day hit by a tree limb and fell ill. Soon after, he died while reciting Song of Solomon in 1274.
The work of Thomas Aquinas influenced much of the thinking we have today. For example, philosophers began promoting the idea that logic and man’s senses could tell him what he needed which, was a distortion of Aquinas’s ideas. The focus on man’s thinking continued into the time of the Renaissance and, is still continued today.
